TagLab
A companion web app that turns every tag into a conversation.
The marketing site, owner onboarding, and finder experience behind TagLab's NFC smart-tag system - "Smart Tags. But Better." - designed so anyone with a phone can scan, no app required.
The brief
TagLab makes smart NFC pet tags - 3D printed by hand in their Liverpool studio from sustainable plant-based PLA, each one personalised and embedded with an NFC chip. They came to us with a clear frustration: every NFC tag app they’d tried was clunky, over-engineered and slow.
The promise was bold and specific - “Smart Tags. But Better.” Tap a tag, see a profile, get notified, with no sign-up required for the person who finds it. We were asked to build the front-of-house experience that delivered on it: the marketing site, owner onboarding, and the finder flow.

What we did
We designed and built the whole experience around one idea: friction kills a finder flow.
- No-app finder experience - anyone can tap a tag with their phone and instantly see the owner’s profile in the browser. No download, no account, no barrier between a lost pet and its owner.
- Owner onboarding in seconds - create a profile (name, photo, contact, social links, address), then hold your phone to the tag to program it. Done.
- Instant notifications with location - the owner is alerted the moment their tag is scanned, with where it happened.
- A brand with personality - we carried “Smart Tags. But Better.” across the marketing site, the app, and the product - a playful tone that matches tags named everything from “Call My People” to “Cheese Tax”.

The result is a fast, friendly system that does exactly what it says - and nothing it doesn’t. A lost tag becomes a tap, and a tap becomes a reunion.
